AboutHey there! My name is Nate Doughty and I am a junior studying journalism news and information in the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University, where I am also pursuing minors in political science and Spanish. As a multimedia journalist, I know the importance of being able to tell a story in a multitude of ways and on different mediums. In the past, I've directed in a TV broadcast control room and produced my own online video series. I've written about campus, county and state events for print and online publications. During the night of the 2016 general election, I co-hosted and co-produced a four hour Facebook Live event that covered the events of the evening. I love my camera and I have taken photographs for many of my own articles in addition to all of the videos I've made.
Below you will find samples of my best work, which can be further explored on the Video, Photography and Writing pages. |
While studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain for a semester, I wanted to work on a video series that highlighted different political events around Europe. During weekend trips, I found stories that explored the issues of the people in the city I was visiting. For this series, I created all of the graphics and animations to go with each episode, in addition to shooting and editing all of the footage.
Paris Under Attack
The city of Paris has seen an increase in terror attacks in recent years. With constant coverage of these events, it would seem that the city is under siege. But is that really how locals and tourists alike feel while in the City of Light? Madrid Demands Support
Victims of domestic abuse and violence protest the lack of support available to them in Spain. While in Madrid, Nate Doughty ran into an association called Ve-la Luz (See the Light) in Plaza Sol, where organizers are participating in a hunger strike and collecting signatures to demand new legislation be passed. |
Event CoverageAs the Executive Video Producer for The New Political - an online campus publication covering politics at Ohio University - I was tasked with covering various events occurring in Athens, Ohio. I was responsible each week for finding a story. At times, this included working with a team of other reporters and videographers. Combined, these videos have received tens of thousands of views on Facebook and YouTube.
F#ck Rape Culture March
The march, which takes place every year during homecoming, aims to increase awareness about sexual assault on college campuses and empower victims to speak up against this conduct. Roughly 100 participants marched in this year's protest. Transgender Lives Remembered
The LGBT Center held a vigil on November 20 for Transgender Remembrance Day. The service, which lasted an hour, featured a name reading of those who had passed away due to trans-violence throughout the past year. |
Feature VideosThese videos aim to enhance feature stories by serving as an extension of the reporting that went along with it. Either working with a reporter or writing the story myself, I sought a way to tell the story in a manner that would work for video, utilizing visual and audio queues that the print story accompanying it could not.
