Hello and welcome to my online portfolio!
My name is Nate Doughty, and I am the Digital Producer at the Pittsburgh Business Times.
In May 2019, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism news and information from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University, where I also obtained a minor in political science.
As a multimedia journalist, being able to tell a story in a multitude of ways and on different mediums is paramount to everything I do. It also helps that I love being behind the lens of my camera.
For most of my written articles, I have taken the story's main photograph or shot a video to accompany it. My videos feature graphics I designed in Adobe Photoshop and then animated in Adobe After Effects, with the final piece coming together in Adobe Premiere Pro, all software I am immensely comfortable with.
In the past, I have directed in a broadcast control room, anchored a four-hour Facebook live-show on election night and hosted my own online video series during a semester abroad in Barcelona, Spain.
I have written about campus, county, state and international events for print and online publications. Topics I have covered include political issues at the local and state level, expansions and hiring trends of multi-million dollar companies, advancements in the technology sector, as well as social justice issues.
From reporting on victims of domestic abuse in Madrid to the fight for legal recognition of sex workers' rights in Buenos Aires, my travels abroad have allowed for me to also cover international issues for audiences in the U.S.
This online portfolio features my proudest work to date across the publications of The Tico Times, the Pittsburgh Business Times, the Observer-Reporter newspaper in Washington, Pa. and The New Political website based in Athens, Ohio.
